Amber Train is an intermodal train which runs on the route Šeštokai/Kaunas – Riga – Tallinn (Muuga).
Amber Train connects the three Baltic States by railways, thus opens new business opportunities for freight shippers.
Exclusivity of the project is the connection of Western and North Europe, using the unique Šeštokai and Kaunas intermodal terminal, which enable the transshipment of freight from the European gauge to the 1520 mm gauge and vice versa. The full implementation of Rail Baltica project in the future will help to create new opportunities, but today the existing infrastructure can be still used efficiently to provide efficient, safe and convenient freight logistics services.
The first pilot Amber Train trip from Šeštokai terminal in Lithuania to Paldiski terminal in Estonia was launched in April of 2018. It was 43 intermodal units train, which arrived to Šeštokai from France.
Operations are managed by LTG Cargo, Latvia’s LDz Loģistika and Estonia’s Operail.
